Cap N Trade

Post  Dr. Evil on Tue Aug 04, 2015 11:17 pm

I've never been a big fan of the Cap n' Trade philosophy because Wall Street fukcs enough shiste up as it is.  As it turns out there were a few of our free marketeers who were on board at one time or another for just that exact reason.  Kind of reminds me of RomneyCare errr, I mean ObamaCare. Anywho here's a nice read.

The NPR article is mostly wrong. To compare a carbon cap and trade program to the sulfur dioxide and leaded gas programs is ludicrous.

1) It's debatable how effective cap and trade was in either program since regulations and mandates were such a big portion of the effort. For example Europe saw a decline of 70% of SO2 emissions primarily because of the use of regulatory actions while the US saw only a 40% decline through the combined use of regulations and cap and trade. With leaded gas, the advent of new technologies and alternatives outstripped any effect that cap and trade provided.

2) The scale of a carbon CnT dwarfs the scale of the marginally effective SO2 and leaded gas CnT by a factor of 100 or so. The lack of economical alternatives in the carbon energy sector (coal, natural gas and oil) means a huge increase in energy costs.

3) While Reagan was an advocate of the free market, he didn't always walk the walk. Case in point, dosmetically Reagan greatly increased farm price supports, controls and subsidies. On the foreign exchange front he increased tariffs on Japanese motorcycles, electronics and computer chips.

4) Cap and trade is essentially a modern day version of indulgences that is too easily gamed by global warming climate change alarmists con artists like Al Gore.

FWIW, Obamacare ≠ Romneycare. This has been proven time and again but then it doesn't fit the BS narrative being pedaled by the Socialists such as yourself.

You absolutely "nailed it". Anyone who would click on that link or most links from the purveyor of evil either has way too much time on their hands or are clueless. It is a complete waste of time. One only needs to look at the link and see the 3 simple letters "npr" to know that it is pure socialist propaganda. Unfortunately is is funded by US taxpayers.

The NPR article is mostly wrong.  To compare a carbon cap and trade program to the sulfur dioxide and leaded gas programs is ludicrous.

Really???

1) It's debatable how effective cap and trade was in either program since regulations and mandates were such a big portion of the effort. For example Europe saw a decline of 70% of SO2 emissions primarily because of the use of regulatory actions while the US saw only a 40% decline through the combined use of regulations and cap and trade. Who says?

2) The scale of a carbon CnT dwarfs the scale of the marginally effective SO2 and leaded gas CnT by a factor of 100 or so. The lack of economical alternatives in the carbon energy sector (coal, natural gas and oil) means a huge increase in energy costs.

Got a link?  Even if it were true, what difference does the scope make.  It either works or it doesn't and it was heavily supported by conservative administrations as my source states.

3) While Reagan was an advocate of the free market, he didn't always walk the walk. Case in point, dosmetically Reagan greatly increased farm price supports, controls and subsidies. On the foreign exchange front he increased tariffs on Japanese motorcycles, electronics and computer chips.

And?

4) Cap and trade is essentially a modern day version of indulgences that is too easily gamed by global warming climate change alarmists con artists like Al Gore.

I had no idea that being concerned about the environment was such a new concept.

FWIW, Obamacare ≠ Romneycare. This has been proven time and again but then it doesn't fit the BS narrative being pedaled by the Socialists such as yourself.

As I said, your post is a snoozer. How does that quote go?  You're entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts.  Let's see some sources, credible or otherwise.  Put up or shut up.

Be careful what you ask for.
