Police in Kennett Square, Chester County, are investigating reports of sewing needles found inside the Halloween candy of multiple children.

Miguel Luna is one of those children.

"Everybody checked their candy, and mom sent an email to all the other friends," he said.

Miguel went door to door with three other trick-or-treaters on Halloween.

At midnight Sunday, they reported finding sewing needles in five snack-size Twix candy bars.


According to police, a parent of one of the kids happened to check after seeing a Facebook post on the hazards of Halloween candy.

"These reports can turn out to be any way, and right now it's an active police investigation," said Cpl. Chris Wills. "So what we're doing is we're interviewing the people who have reported the incident, we're trying to figure out where they were trick-or-treating at and we're trying to get more information from them."

After police alerted the community and showed the reports on their Facebook page, a second report came in Sunday afternoon.

A separate child from the original complainants brought in a Snickers candy bar with a sewing needed inside.

All the children, ranging in age from 7 to 12, went door to door in the Stenning Hills neighboring bordering South Union Street and West South Street.

Neighbors and parents in the neighborhood were upset after hearing about the discoveries.

"That's terrible some people want to something harmful to our kids," said Janet Rodriquez.

"Kids are just out doing fun, innocent stuff, just getting candy with their family and something like this could ruin it for everybody," said Albert Arocho.
