So much for the Republican pledge to support nominee
Florida senator Marco Rubio told reporters Saturday he's not sure if he could support Donald Trump if the New York businessman were the Republican nominee for president.
"Would you support him as the nominee if he were the nominee?" asked a reporter in Largo, Florida.
"I don't know," said a despondent-looking Rubio. "I mean, I've already talked about the fact that I think Hillary Clinton would be terrible for this country."
Shaking his head, he continued. "I still at this moment still intend to support the Republican nominee but," and here, Rubio paused. "[It's] getting harder every day."

And he'll not know till Trump is the nominee then we'll all know, won't we. He didn't say he wouldn't support Trump, just that he didn't know if he could. Weasel words fer sure.

The Donald himself has been wobbling and weasling ever since he signed the pledge. From an interview with John Dickerson on Face the Nation on February 28th:
"I don't think it's fair the way that the establishment is treating Donald Trump. I'll be honest with you. I signed the pledge. I will abide by the pledge unless they default. As far as I'm concerned they defaulted."

People keep saying how crazy this election cycle has been for Republicans. I say they are missing the larger picture. This election cycle is simply indicative of the insanity in today’s GOP. Here's why:
First you have Trump, who represents the largest percentage of Republicans. Like him they are loud mouthed, self centered, bigoted, phonies. As with Trump, they are nowhere near as successful as they would lead you to believe, and are more than willing to take a handout when the opportunity presents itself while bashing others for doing the same. They cheer the type of bigotry he spreads, and won't shut the fucck up.
Next you have Cruz who represents the much darker side of the GOP. The type of guy who has the unique ability to shake your hand with one hand, while stabbing you in the back with the other. These are the type of guys that leave a grease spot where they were sitting because they are just that slimy. When Trump's followers spread lies they actually believe them, where Cruz followers know better, but they keep the lip service in full force. This group isn't near as big as it appears, because there are many in it that just like to think they are more sophisticated than Trump's group, but aren't.
Finally you have Rubio and his followers. They are the supressed voice of reason in the Republican party, and make up the minority of the GOP. Grandpa's Republican party if you will. The perpetual whipping post of Trump and Cruz's people.
There you have it. This election cycle is more "normal" than it really should be.

Christian Schneider of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has a great piece over at National Review making this succinct point:
Here's the whole article:

When primary candidates pledge to have one another’s back in the general election, it’s supposed to unite the party, not abet its arson. Loyalty pledges are not a suicide pact. And in this election, the only trustworthy candidates may be the ones that break their word.

Yep, those who vacate their pledge give a whole new definition of "honesty"

Re: So much for the Republican pledge to support nominee
While this may be an apocryphal quote, the economist John Maynard Keynes supposedly stated in response to criticism on his change over monetary policy during the Depression, "When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?"
Honesty seems to be a one way street in Trump's world, only required of his opponents, whether business or political. As I posted earlier, The Donald himself has wavered on his pledge probably more than Rubio has. "I'll be honest with you. I signed the pledge. I will abide by the pledge unless they default. As far as I'm concerned they defaulted"
