Lead story in today's Argus said that the cost of electricity in South Dakota could increase by as much as 90% if the Big Stone Plant is idled to meet a 35% drop in carbon emissions. A $400 million expansion currently underway would have to be scrapped and costs would have to be paid with increased electric rates. Interesting that 50% of electricity capacity generated by the 4 Missouri River dams don't count in calculations for a reduction of carbon emissions. WTF? Thanks Obama.

As new nationwide carbon emissions reductions take effect in South Dakota, utility rates might increase up to 90 percent.

The Big Stone coal-fired power plant would virtually be idled, and its $400 million upgrade already underway would be wasted.

And

About half the electricity generated in South Dakota, 6.7 megawatts, comes from Missouri River dams. But the EPA did not include noncarbon-emitting hydropower in establishing South Dakota’s baseline emissions because relatively few states have significant hydro resources and putting it in the formula would skew calculations in most of the country.

Here we are in the US sitting on top of a mammoth pile of fuel and energy. Instead of the Envirowacko's working to promote cleaner ways of using this pile of energy they do every thing they can to prevent using it. So we send money to the Arab's who send it back in the form of bombs and terrorism. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

What's sad is that the coal not burned in the US does little to reduce carbon emissions world wide since US exports of coal will hit a record in 2014, the third in a row.

U.S. coal shipments outside the country in 2014 are expected to surpass 100 million tons for the third year, a record string

Wow!  The argusliar is sure loose with its "facts".  For instance, the claim of how much energy is produced by the dams is outlandishly wrong.  Then the opinion piece by some ex-professor from Clay county is hilarious reading.
