I wonder if the author of this LOE has suffered from paranoia long or just all his life.

Any possibility he shows this same "safe and responsible ownership" of his vehicle by removing the battery when not in use to prevent burglary theft and unauthorized use that may injure/maim/kill others?

Funny, I keep my guns loaded with one in the chamber and when I carry, locked and loaded.  I just have the funny suspicion that in the event I need to use it to save my life or others, the criminal won't wait for me to load the gun.  The only noise you will hear breaking into my house is bang and the bullet will have hit you before you hear the bang (speed of sound vs. bullet velocity and all).

Good to know you must have managed to recover some (since you said "guns") weapons from that lake you lost them when your boat overturned a year or so ago.

Come to think of it I don't think I will even give a warning shot to an intruder since the cost of ammo has skyrocketed.

Whenever an assailant breaks into my house, (and they have in 2003) I always say to them; Hold on a minute, my ammunition is locked up in another room, please wait here while I retrieve it and then load my weapon in front of you. This will only take a couple of minutes. Do you have time to wait?
