By the looks of it it's committing suicide as Fisker Automotive misses it's first $10M payment on a $192M DoE Obama Loan. Fisker hasn't built a car since last July and has sold only a pitiful 2,000. Fisker founder and president Henrik Fisker has decided to jump off the sinking ship and quit last month. Go Green! affraid

the problem is; fossil fuels are just too cheap and plentiful. That can be fixed. Or, Fisker was paid too much.

I love playing the liberal.

The Fisker is a bad example of the electric car. The things burned up left and right. Couple that with bad management. Thats why that company is out of business not because electric cars are bad.

The new Tesla sedan is selling like hot cakes, you cant even get one if you wanted one. Unless you are ok waiting 2-3 years for a new one.

Actually all the electric car companies are bad examples. While Tesla produces their own battery packs, this also limits their ability to rapidly expand production. In fact many of their parts are of a proprietary manufacture slowing down the entire manufacturing process. That is why you can't buy a Tesla right now. It's not so much that they are selling so many but that they are producing so few. They have sold this year's production but that is only 20,000 units.

Also keep in mind that Tesla has only shown one profitable quarter yet has burned through over $1B in financing/loans/capital since opening their doors. And what happens when the $7,500 tax credit is phased out? Think sales will continue along at this pace then?

The cars cost $120,000. Do you think they are worried about a $7,500 tax CREDIT, not a refund?

20,000 cars X say 100,000 to make it easy = $2 Billion

No they don't. The Base S sells for $69,900 with the 60kw-h battery pack and makes up the lion's share of the models being sold. Only a 1,000 Signature models were manufactured and they range from $95K to $105K before the credit is applied. Plus the people buying this car are earning enough money that it is more than likely that they will use all of their $7,500 credit.

Oh ok, I dont know what they actually retail for. I just looked at one on Dupont Registry and saw them asking 100k.

Second hand parties not the manufacturer. Buy it for MSRP from the manufacturer sell to someone who has to have it for a 20-30k profit. Happens all the time for new exotic cars.
