In a nutshell the reason for the Alien And Sedition Acts was

The Alien and Sedition Acts were passed by Congress in 1798 in preparation for an anticipated war with France. The Naturalization Act increased the residency requirement for American citizenship from five to fourteen years, required aliens to declare their intent to acquire citizenship five years before it could be granted, and rendered people from enemy nations ineligible for naturalization. The subsequent Sedition Act banned the publishing of scandalous or malicious writings against the government. The acts were designed by Federalists to limit the power of the opposition Republican Party, but enforcement ended after Thomas Jefferson was elected president in 1800.

Progressive liberals are pure evil.  They not only outright lie on every occasion that benefits them; they have used revisionist historians to taint the knowledge of our children and grandchildren by rewriting history.

As English novelist Samuel Butler once wrote: Though God cannot alter the past--historians can

For anyone who is really interested in what our Founders believed, please do not rely on the liberal revisionist history books that are used by the progressive liberal propaganda machine.  There are several sources available that take you directly to the words of our Founders.  You also do need to read their words and sometimes do a little research on what the words meant in the time of our Founders.  The liberals always forget to tell people that some words today do not have the same meaning as they did in 1776.

Here is a GREAT BOOK that is dedicated to the TRUE Thomas Jefferson in his OWN WORDS.

http://www.amazon.com/Real-Thomas-Jefferson-American-Classic/dp/0880800062

And here is a link to a 1768 Dictionary.  You have to scroll down quite a few pages before you will get to the actual dictionary part where they provide definitions.  If you ever need this source, it is helpful.

Ummm..... no.   The link is right here.

Forget it, you had your chance.

FYI, I looked at about five different sites and failed to find any that stated the main purpose of the Alien And Sedition Acts was voter suppression.

Now one could surmise potential voters might be affected due to the period for citizenship was increased from five years to 14 years ... but no where did any source specifically state the main purpose of these acts was for voter suppression.

Also for your information .. the link you finally supply without the errors is one of the five I found a long time ago. Do a search for "voter suppression" and you will not find those terms in the text

You were repeatedly asked to prove your claim and failed to do so, therefore the only conclusion is as Jammer states you are just a pile of lying liberal dogshit.

Armed with these statutes, Federalists attempted to suppress Republican opposition on the basis of ideological differences...

I fcuking knew it. The crappy History Channel. They should stick to "Ice Road Truckers" and "Pawn Stars". And their blurb on the Alien and Sedition Acts says nothing about voter suppression. Jeebus

The likely hood of the Alien Act being used by the Federal government to suppress voting is a stretch. A couple of points to keep in mind.

1)In the earlier Presidential elections about half of the states chose electors by their state legislatures not by direct vote. Voter suppression in those states would have made no sense.

2) Senators were chosen by legislatures, not direct election. Again voter suppression would have made no sense.

3) States controlled (and still do) voter requirements and until 1996 states if they wanted, could have extended suffrage to aliens. In fact there were some instances of suffrage being extended to aliens in state and local elections in the 1790s. The biggest limiting factor in those times was property ownership and freeman status.

What we have is a classical example of presentism, which is the interpretation of the past with present day attitudes and concepts.
