I had friends growing up that called themselves cowboys even though they didn't own a single cow, or a horse. Was it acceptable for them to identify as a cowboy? I know a state rodeo queen who is a hair stylist that happens to own a horse. How about her?

But keeping with the Memorial Day theme, there was a great article in yesterday's Argus about the 147th Field Artillery Regiment, Company D. Originally just a Sioux Dakota National Guard outfit they were deployed to the South Pacific, leaving Pearl Harbor just days before the attack, then headed for the Philippines before finally being diverted to Australia. They then fought their way north as part of the island hopping strategy. This was my father's outfit although he was transferred to a regular Army outfit and then took part in the New Guinea Campaign which was some of the nastiest fighting in the SP. (By the looks of it from the history books it was all pretty nasty).

I don't have many memories of him since he left the family when I was about 7 or 8. We finally met up years later and made our peace. At his funeral I was one of his pallbearers along with my two other brothers. Hail and farewell Dad.
