Staring at this map of 38 years of unemployment is mesmerizing. When you’re finally able to snap out of your trance, you figure one thing out: That so-called “flyover country” is a lot better at keeping unemployment down than the Democrat-leaning urbanized or coastal states.

That’s not an illusion of the map. It’s confirmed in data ranging from 2007-2014, time and time again, when Republicans control the power of the purse, more people get back to work.
