The Real 4th of July
Lost to history is the fact that 240 years ago today on July 2, 1776, Independence was declared by the Second Continental Congress prompting John Adams to write to his wife Abigail,
"I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more."
Have a great 4th of July!

The phrase "God almighty" can't be correct as the nation's founders were committed to the separation of church and state.

If only Adams had used a lower case "g". However it appears Adams had taken advantage of a 4th of July sale on upper case letters.

Speaking of the 4th of July and independence ...
This is one of the best renditions of The Star Spangled Banner I have heard in a very long time (and I have heard a lot).

I'm surprised you guys are geting behind that solo the way that you are, but yes it's astonishing. I remember the acoustics of the Lincoln Memorial very well and she used them perfectly. One of the most beautiful falsettos I've heard.
Happy Fourth of July everyone!

I'v always liked the more traditional rendition of the anthem. Falsettos and warble noting may play well on stage at a concert but the "artist" injecting their own "style" cheapens it. Many venues have started using military and HS bands to do it with great results, as do a couple of youth choirs I've seen.

Someone should post the anthem of Mo Cheeks helping that girl. My Obamaphone doesn't allow links.
That one made me sniffle.

I think it's actually a vibrato to are referring to there. A falsetto is when a tenor voice dials in a higher octave. This is a beautiful woman, with a beautiful voice, but if you closed your eyes and listened it would be tough to tell if it's a man or a woman singing. I'd say she's a pair of flipped chromosomes from not knowing where she's allowed to piss, if she's not already there, and I know how forgiving you guys are of that particular gray area.

Maybe she is experiencing a gender change you bigoted a-hole or at least self identifying as an alternate sex than she was born with.

If a vibrato is a high pitched screech intended to emphasize a note, or simply to show off your pipes, i guess you're right. I wasn't referring to her performance particularly, I was addressing performers in general who try to make the anthem "their own" by stylizing it. As for falsettos I was referring to guys who don't have the range and go falsie to cover or switch keys. The anthem is difficult in that it covers a greater range than most music. If you don't have the range don't pretend you can sing it.
