His wife heard him in another room making phone calls....then a gunshot. He had called and requested interviews with reporters at his home a few hours earlier.

I wonder what the story is here.

CNN is a piece of drivel. It appears Schweich was going public about perceived anti-Semitic remarks made about his Jewish background although he had evidently converted to Christianity. Nothing here Jonesie. Move on.

Was CNN not completely factual? What's not interesting about the fact that the mudslinging politics has become so toxic that a gubernatorial candidate felt the urge to take his own life? Everything doesn't have to be about sex, guns, and rock n' roll you know....

CNN was so vague with the facts that the story was worthless. You yourself wondered what was behind his suicide. Crikers, a quick search of local news sources revealed that. You are as obtuse as the stringers at CNN.

Unless it was a terminal illness, people should talk to someone before this is done. Being alone and depressed can be incredibly hard.

Here's an article with more insite to what was going on. One possible and very probable cause is that he was intimidated by the rough and tumble Missouri politics and couldn't handle it.

What a tragic tale. Apparently he could take dealing with Afghan warlords in stride but dealing with (allegedly) corrupt American politicians was too much for him. I wish he had sought help, we need more people like him that are willing to stand up to the dark underbelly of American politics.
