Recently NFL linebacker James Harrison stated this via Instagram
I came home to find out that my boys received two trophies for nothing, participation trophies! While I am very proud of my boys for everything they do and will encourage them till the day I die, these trophies will be given back until they EARN a real trophy. I'm sorry I'm not sorry for believing that everything in life should be earned and I'm not about to raise two boys to be men by making them believe that they are entitled to something just because they tried their best...cause sometimes your best is not enough, and that should drive you to want to do better...not cry and whine until somebody gives you something to shut u up and keep you happy.

Former NFL great Kurt Warner supports Harrison.  No doubt there are other supporters out there we haven't heard yet.

No doubt also there those of the "entitled to it without earning" crowd will counter with some argument.

BarryO got the Nobel for doing nothing except getting elected so why not give trophies to athletes. I played football in HS and lettered two years. The citations were for "Participation". All players were able to get performance awards based on things they did during games on the field. At least they did something to earn it. BarryO will have a billion dollar "library" to feature his trophy in too, probably in the entryway where it can't be overlooked.

All of the trophies and medals that I earned throughout high school are sitting in a box somewhere and I can't even remember where I put them. If you actually use trophies from high school to judge the value of your life, you have bigger problems in life than a trophy.

Leave it up to Hugh Jassole to throw out a strawman.

Funy. I know this comment wasn't directed at me but I can't help commenting. I got two letters in football. I didn't have the money for the jacket so Mom knitted a sweater for one of them. Everything that I had that wasn't an absolute necessity I had to buy myself. I was the oldest of 6 with a stay at home mom. At a recent class reunion the "team" thought it would be a good idea to display their jackets in the foyer outside of the hall. I got a lot of mileage out of a comment I made when asked where mine was. On mic I was asked the question, I responded, on mic, that I got $20 for it in Sasebo Japan from a guy who always wanted one but couldn't afford it. $20 bought a lot of goodies in 1960 japan........ Big lie but they deserved it. Put it tp bed, from the shrunken heads and scalps of prehistory mankind to the trophy cases and pix on the boardroom wall, we've always been collectors of our achievements. Get used to it.

Since the numbers of lezbos is miniscule, high schools don't want to waste the money. So maybe they could give participation trophies to those who claim to be lez and who claim to be good softball players.

lol!

Did it really take you nearly nine months to come up with that?
