Most bullets travel faster than the speed of sound so you get the sonic boom regardless if it is suppressed or not. Shooting subsonic rounds are much more quiet but raveling at 1/3 the velocity in the 30-06 case.

The "crack" of a supersonic round is not nearly as loud as the report at close quarters. Subsonics are preferred by many because of the lack of supersonic noise. Generally good for short range only.

This video has been making the rounds on FB.

I have a few issues with it:

1. The self-defense approach doesn't hold water because more people die from accidental shootings than are saved by someone carrying. You can't rob Peter to pay Paul. That doesn't necessarily mean that I don't think people should carry, just don't waste my time with the self-defense approach.

2. If you're going to claim that strong gun control makes it easier for would be murderers, then you have to agree that loose gun control enables suicidal people. I would argue that it enables would murderers as well.

3. I understand the tyrannical government bit. It's pretty easy to say that could never happen any more, but look at what we have in the White House today. I'm not saying that we have another Hitler on our hands, but his attempts to isolate and marginalize the truth of the free press by calling them "fake news" is deeply troubling. It's also deeply troubling that he can garner so many followers. So tyranny can never be counted out.

The question is who gets to decide what is tyranny? How about those cooks a few years ago in Nevada? Or a few years later in Oregon? Is that who the Second Amendment was written for? Or are we allowing them to bastardize it? We may not see true tyranny for 1000 years. What do we do in the meantime?

4. No matter how you slice it, we as a country have an embarrassingly and disturbingly high number of people that die by the gun every year. I agree that other avenues need to be looked at. Unfortunately the same crowd that bangs the gun rights drum also refuses to look at social/economical issues.

Granted the police did appear to react shortly after the shooting stopped, and should be commended for doing so.

If you are in any way implying LE had a direct bearing on ending the shooting I think you will see from your link there was a lapse of one hour and two minutes after THE SHOOTING OF THE HOTEL OFFICER (SEE BELOW) through the door until LE arrived at and breached the suite in enough force to neutralize the shooter. HOWEVER THE ONLY CONTACT POLICE HAD WITH PADDOCK IS WHEN THEY FOUND HIS DEAD BODY AFTER ENTERING THE ROOM.

Just heard Dave Muir on ABC report that the shooting of the people at the festival DID NOT BEGIN until after the hotel officer was shot)

I'd say Dave Muir is an idiot then...the only way the security guard knew anything was occurring on the 32nd floor was because of the shooting. Luckily there was a military person staying directly below the shooter on the 31st floor that reported to the lobby the shooting was originating in the room directly above him. I would guess the shooter shot himself shortly after strafing the hotel wall trying to get the security guard. When seconds count the police are only 72 minutes away! That said there wasn't any gunfire once the police entered the floor so there was no immediate threat to additional people. They handled the situation correct given that fact.

Why they are trying to change the sequence of events is intriguing. Apparently everything previously reported by the hotel guests and security guard was a lie...right!
